6-day trip to Denmark
Visiting Copenhagen, Kronborg Slot ( or Helsingor Castle or Elsinore Castle or Castle of Hamlet,) Frederisborg Slot ( or Hillerod Castle), Roskilde, Island of Fano, Ribe.
Copenaghen: walking around in the city
I would like to remind Copenhagen through The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue), the statue commissioned by the director of the Carlsberg Brewery in memory of the fairy tale of Hans Christian Andersen, and the New Harbour, where the writer lived; once it was a slum and now is one of the most popular areas of the capital and is known as Nyhavn .
There are splendid colourful houses and elegant moored boats.
We visited the interesting Royal Palace “Amalienborg Slot” and the Royal Castle “Rosemborg Slot”.
In front of the beautiful tower of the Copenhagen City Hall (Radhus) there is the famous amusement park “Tivoli” , with the lake and the restaurants “Nimb” in the Moorish style , the “Chinese Pagoda” and the “Ferry Inn” .
We visited the Borsen (Stock Exchange), now Chamber of Commerce , which is particularly known for its tower shaped as the tails of four dragons twined together, and the Palace “Christiansborg Slot”.
Copenaghen: Frederiksborg Slot (or Hillerod castle)
We visited the Frederiksborg Slot (or Hillerod Castle). In particular we admired the beautiful Knights’ Hall (Riddersalen) and the Chapel (Slotskirken).
Copenaghen: Kronborg Slot (or Helsingor castle)
We visited the Kronborg Slot (or Elsinore Castle or Elsinore Castle, or Castle of Hamlet) dating back to the fifteenth century.
Roskilde: Viking Museum
During our transfer to the Southern Jutland we stopped in Roskilde .
We visited the beautiful Cathedral but its most significant site is the Viking Ship Museum.
The museum exhibits several ships including the largest warship ever discovered (30 meters long).
Island of Fanø
We stopped in the island of Fanø.
The island is very flat and only natural dunes defend it by the strength of the North Sea.
Its characteristic houses are very interesting, they have thatched roofs and beamed ceilings that convey an atmosphere of past centuries.
Ribe is the oldest and best preserved extant town in Scandinavia.
The Cathedral (dating back to 1100 ) and the Town Hall are spectacular.
